Hormonal therapy, a pivotal component of cancer care at the Indian Cancer Center (ICC), targets cancers that are influenced by hormone activity, such as breast, prostate, and certain gynecological cancers. These cancers often have hormone receptors on their cells, making them susceptible to hormonal manipulation.
ICC employs strategies to regulate hormone production in hormone-responsive cancers. For instance, in breast cancer, medications may be used to suppress estrogen production in postmenopausal women or to block estrogen receptors on cancer cells, preventing hormone stimulation of tumor growth.
Another approach involves blocking hormone receptors on cancer cells, preventing hormones from binding and stimulating cancer growth. Drugs like tamoxifen for breast cancer or androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer are examples of this strategy.
ICC may utilize medications that alter hormone activity, disrupting signaling pathways essential for cancer growth. By inhibiting enzymes involved in hormone synthesis or interfering with hormone signaling, these drugs impede cancer progression.
At ICC, hormonal therapy is tailored to each patient's specific cancer type, hormone receptor status, and individual health considerations. By precisely targeting the hormonal pathways driving cancer growth, ICC aims to provide personalized care that maximizes treatment efficacy and improves patient outcomes.
