Cancer Genomics and Targeted Therapies at ICC: Precision Medicine for Improved Outcomes
At the Indian Cancer Center (ICC), we leverage the power of cancer genomics and targeted therapies to offer personalized treatment options that target specific genetic alterations driving cancer growth. Our approach focuses on understanding the unique genetic makeup of each patient's tumor to tailor therapies that are most likely to be effective while minimizing side effects.
Types of Cancer Targeted Therapy
- Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors (TKIs) : These drugs block specific enzymes, called tyrosine kinases, that play a role in cancer cell growth and proliferation. Examples include imatinib for chronic myeloid leukemia and gefitinib for non-small cell lung cancer.
- Monoclonal Antibodies:Monoclonal antibodies are designed to target specific proteins on the surface of cancer cells, leading to their destruction. Examples include trastuzumab for HER2-positive breast cancer and rituximab for certain types of lymphoma.
- Hormone Therapy :This approach is used to block the effects of hormones that fuel the growth of hormone-sensitive cancers, such as breast and prostate cancer.
- PARP Inhibitors :These drugs block the PARP enzyme, which helps repair damaged DNA in cells. They are particularly effective in cancers with defects in DNA repair mechanisms, such as ovarian and breast cancer.
- Angiogenesis Inhibitors :Angiogenesis inhibitors block the formation of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow. Examples include bevacizumab for colorectal, lung, and kidney cancer.
